Brazilian cellist Antonio Meneses commissions a Luiz Amorim cello

14 May 1281

Brazilian cellist Antonio Meneses has commissioned Luiz Amorim to make him a cello.

Just like Amorim Fine Violins, Antonio is from originally from Brazil. He came to Europe at a young age to study under the famous Italian cellist, Antonio Janigro and won several prestigious competitions including first prize and gold medal at the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 1982.

As a soloist and recording artist, Antonio is always under pressure to play instruments which produce the best quality sound, so we were honoured when he commissioned us to make him a cello based on his principle instrument – a cello made by Goffriller.

Antonio has helped Amorim Fine Violins to grow and develop the quality of our instruments by providing invaluable feedback on the cellos we make, so it is always a pleasure to welcome him to our Cremona workshop.

During a recent visit, Luiz carried out a few adjustments on Antonio’s cello to make it sound even better.
